So I hear [livejournal.com profile] kiss_me_cassie started a meme. *g*

My poem contribution: 'The Stolen Child,' by WB Yeats. )

I rock.

Rock Star
You scored 92%!
You damn rock star. You know all the basics, and if you got any wrong, I bet it was that stupid Traveling Wilburys question. Your friends are probably intimidated by your knowledge of classic rock and envy your impressive collection. When a classic rock song comes on the radio, you can probably identify it before the vocals kick in most of the time. You probably get good scores on the "maiden name of Clapton's mom" tests, too.

My test tracked 1 variable How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 99% on notes

I wish it told you which you got wrong, as I am positive I did get the Traveling Wilburys question right. hee.

Nicked from [livejournal.com profile] alto2: the comedy meme.

Favourite Joke: Two nuns are driving down a dark road in Transylvania. Suddenly a vampire leaps out in front of the car and they skid to a stop. The first nun says, "Quick, show him your cross!" The second nun rolls down the window, pokes her head out and shouts, "GET OUT OF THE WAY, YOU TOOTHY GIT!"

I don't know if that's really my favorite, but it reminds me of The Vicar of Dibley, and it was really the only one I could think of.

Three Favourite Comedy/Comic Movies:

Raising Arizona
Groundhog Day
The Ref

No question. Didn't even have to think about it.

Favourite Comedy TV series: I couldn't possibly choose between The Vicar of Dibley, Coupling, and Scrubs. It would be too close to call. I love them all equally.

My sister and I went to the movies yesterday. We almost saw Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man, because the thought of Leonard Cohen, Beth Orton, and Nick Cave all together in one film was almost too much for me to pass up, but in the end I figured my sister wouldn't enjoy it nearly as much as I would. So we saw Little Miss Sunshine. I have no words adequate enough to describe how much we loved this movie. Anything I say would fall miserably short of the mark, so all I'll say was that it was the closest thing to perfect--at least, my idea of perfect--I have seen in quite a while, and we loved pretty much every second. I highly, highly recommend it. So much love!

The awesome collage meme which I stole from [livejournal.com profile] alto2: here. )

By the way, I think everyone who's anyone already knows about [livejournal.com profile] bubbleficathon 2006, but if you don't, what are you waiting for? An invitation? Oh, wait.

That political meme what everyone else is doing. )

I thought this was a pretty interesting quiz. I've found several 'determine your political leanings' memes, but they never ask more than about 10 questions, and not that memes are scientific, but really, ten questions seems a bit simplified.

Politics meme = Francis Urquhart icon. Hee.
janiejones: (roseanne laugh :: jrocker)
No surprise, I did the TV meme that's going around. My GOD, I've watched a lot of television. I was able to bold a surprising number of shows. (I went with the [livejournal.com profile] zandras_court version.)

My parents have this book, Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television, and I remember looking through it, being fairly impressed with the logic, but never seriously considering the possibility of living without one. This is probably why. )

Interestingly though, when I was about 14 or 15, my mom got a wild hair and cut the cord (literally) on the television, and we lived without TV for several months. I remember it was painful for the first couple of days, but then it wasn't so bad. Considering I'm staying at home full-time now, I'm not sure I could say the same were I to try that experiment now.

Tagged by [livejournal.com profile] dutch38. I am such a sucker for a meme.

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open it to page 161.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't search around and look for the coolest book you can find. Do what's actually next to you.

"May I pour your bath?" the butler said. --Thank You For Smoking, Christopher Buckley

Has anyone else seen this movie yet, and if so did you love it like I did? And did you find that moment with Rob Lowe as freakin' hilarious as I did?
janiejones: (luke huh? :: lafemmeicons)
You only need six? )

S is up for a new job at his company. It would be better pay, better hours, and he would no longer be required to do work that will one day cause him to need back and/or knee surgery. The new job would require him to work with his head, which is far better suited to hard work than his poor skinny little body. He's supposed to hear something this afternoon. ::fingers crossed::

Loving hugs to the [livejournal.com profile] zandras_court family today.

And because I probably won't be online much this weekend, I want to say: Early birthday wishes to [livejournal.com profile] dutch38. LJ is advising me your birthday is tomorrow, and I wish you a very happy one!

Doctor Who thoughts )

Finally--The meme what [livejournal.com profile] zandras_court tagged me for:

1. Which icon do you associate most with me?
2. Which icon is your favorite?
3. Which icon would you like to see me use more often?
4. One that you don't get/needs more explanation/you have no idea why the hell I have it.
5. Can you make two of my icons converse?
6. When you comment, use your favourite icon and tell me why you love it!
7. Paste this in your journal and tag 5 people to do the same.

I'm not tagging anyone, because as usual, I'm late to the party and everyone else has done it. Now I'm off to see if I can do anyone else's memes before Small Anne awakens. *g*

My unpopular fandom opinions: )

One random thing about Gilmore Girls: When Kirk did his interpretive dance to that ominous, chanty-type music? Twenty bucks says I was one of about ten people to know what the hell that piece of music was. It's called "The Hopi Prophecies" and it's from this film--Koyaanisqatsi, which means "Life out of balance." It's a documentary-slash-art film that my dad absolutely LOVES. He caught it one night on the PBS affiliate in Anchorage, and he recorded it, and he watched it endlessly, and that freakin' music HAUNTED me as a child. Because if you hear it once, it gets stuck in your head, but if you hear it over and over again, especially at night when you're trying to sleep, then it's with you forever and all you have to do is say "Koyaanisqatsi" and watch me cringe.

But then my mom 'accidentally' recorded over the tape, and my dad searched for the movie for about fifteen years, and finally found it on DVD last year. So now that music is haunting my younger sisters instead of me. I've been lucky enough to go the past fifteen years without having to hear it (except in my nightmares), and then I turn on GG, and there it is? Koyaanisqatsi...Koyaanisqatsi...

I swear, I thought my dad was the only person in the world who had heard of that film.

I know GG can get obscure, but really...Did they need to dig into traumas from my childhood?

Nicked from [livejournal.com profile] philateley: A music meme.

Now with answers! )
janiejones: (Default)
I haven't been tagged, but what the heck? It's about books!

1) Total number of books owned?

Our total book collection is 900+. Of those, at least half are mine.

2) The last book I bought?

I think it was Ya-Yas in Bloom, by Rebecca Wells.

3) The last book I read?

The Only Boy For Me by Gil McNeil. (Meh.)

4) 5 books that mean a lot to me?

East of Eden, by John Steinbeck
To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, by Betty Smith
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams
Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott

5) 5 folks I'd like to see answer this meme (assuming they haven't already)? Um, I'm pretty sure y'all already have.

And now I disappear into the night once more... Muahahahaha.
janiejones: (george :: parrotdroppings)
We’re all shocked, aren't we? )

01) Total volume of music files on my computer: 3.65GB.

02) Last album I bought: Oh my God, I don’t even know if I remember. It was a looooong time ago, but I think…Maybe Bryan Ferry & Roxy Music: The Platinum Collection. But that’s just a guess.

03a) The last song I listened to before writing this was: “These Are the Days” – Van Morrison

03b) Something on the radio which I feel I should know the title of: I don’t really listen to the radio, but when I do I listen to classic rock or the 80s/90s station, and I always know the titles.

04) Five songs I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me: I’ll go with ‘listen to a lot.’ In the ‘I always listen to these songs’ sense, rather than ‘I’m currently obsessed with these songs,’ ‘cause that would have to be more than five.

‘Say Hello Wave Goodbye’ – David Gray
‘Tender’ – Blur
‘Into My Arms’ – Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
‘Tuesday’s Gone’ – Lynyrd Skynyrd
‘Last Thing’ – Diana Anaid

05) Five people I am passing this baton to: [livejournal.com profile] em_meredith, [livejournal.com profile] dianora2, [livejournal.com profile] kelbelle, [livejournal.com profile] mcamy, [livejournal.com profile] philateley. Apologies if y’all have already done this ;-)
janiejones: (vic snog :: prissywitch)
Sorry for the bitchy post earlier. The past couple of days...okay, three or four...have been kind of lousy. Blah.

If y'all aren't done with this one yet, have a gander at my take on this meme. (Of course, as is typical here at Janie Jones World, we're too late to guess for anyone else.)

a. Post a list of 10 TV fandoms/shows you follow (current or cancelled!)
b. Have your friends list guess your favourite CHARACTER from each show
c. When guessed bold the line and write a sentence about why you like that character
d. Post in your own livejournal.

(You'll notice some recurring shows.)

1. Northern Exposure

2. The West Wing--Sam Seaborn. Guessed by [livejournal.com profile] mcsister. I know Sam isn't really a popular character, but he's always been my favorite. Ever since AISTTC, and "When I write something, I sign my name." I love his intensity and vulnerability, and his guillibility too. I really love everything about Sam.

3. Coupling--Patrick. Guessed by [livejournal.com profile] pookha. I completely love all the main characters, but for some reason, round about season 2, Patrick began to edge out the competition. He's just so delightfully randy and playful, yet so matter-of-fact. Ben Miles made a potentially smarmy, stereotypical man-whore really charming and endearing. (2nd place love goes to Sally.)

4. Murphy Brown

5. Scrubs--JD. Another one guessed by [livejournal.com profile] pookha. Such a smart girl, that pookha. *g* JD has just always been my favorite. I love his utter cluelessness, his reveries, his internal monologues, everything. I even love when he's being a schmuck, because I think it makes him a great character. But honestly, this is another show that had lots of competition. What's not to love on 'Scrubs'?

6. The Office (UK)
7. Roseanne
8. Sports Night
9. Queer as Folk

10. Designing Women--Julia Sugarbaker. Guessed by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] mcsister. The Terminator! I don't think I need to say more. Sometimes I love Charlene best, she was so sweet and naive, and Jean Smart had that great, smoky Southern voice. But Julia was, and is, my hero. So smart and sassy and political.

Stealing from everyone. What are friends lists for if not to steal memes?

    You Are 30 Years Old

    30

Under 12: You are a kid at heart. You still have an optimistic life view - and you look at the world with awe.

13-19: You are a teenager at heart. You question authority and are still trying to find your place in this world.

20-29: You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel excited about what's to come... love, work, and new experiences.

30-39: You are a thirtysomething at heart. You've had a taste of success and true love, but you want more!

40+: You are a mature adult. You've been through most of the ups and downs of life already. Now you get to sit back and relax.

    Hmm...Interesting. Vedddddy, veddy interesting.

Stealing from abso-bloody-lutely everyone! And I think I posted, “Dammit, I knew these!” in several journals, because I knew so many off of everyone’s, and now I resent everyone for beating me to them. Hee.

    Movie Meme
[a] Pick one dozen movies that are ones that you have special feelings about.
[b] Pick a few lines of dialogue.
[c] As people guess the film, strike out that entry.
[d] After the film is guessed, explain why that movie made the list.

    And away we go... )

I hope people play along. Mostly I think they're pretty easy, but I'm excited to see what everyone comes up with. *g*
