Hugh Jackman to host next year's Oscars.

Quite the departure from the usual comedians they use, and I must say I quite heartily approve. He's funny and very charismatic and charming. I bet he can pull it off.

Also he will look TOTALLY HOT in a tuxedo.

Come on, Hugh, learn to throw your weight around like those Hollywood types!

Thompson Desperate for 'House' Role

Emma Thompson is desperate to land a role in U.S. series House alongside her ex-boyfriend Hugh Laurie. Thompson, who is married to fellow British star Greg Wise, dated Laurie in the early 1980s and the pair remain close pals. And the actor is keen to have his former love appear in his hit TV series. He says, "She (Thompson) genuinely does watch it. It obviously goes out in a different season in the U.K. but she does follow the show and likes it very much and would love to be on it." But Laurie insists he won't use his celebrity status to command cameo appearances from his wide circle of celebrity pals. He adds, "Obviously I would never feel I was in a position to treat this as some sort of club, where I can have... 'Oh, just mention my name. They'll let you in.'"

I honestly try not to get caught up in celebrity gossip the way I used to, and I am long since done with Tom Cruise, but I have to say: Baby Suri is seriously cute.

[livejournal.com profile] pookha, honey, are you sitting down?

Carmen Electra & Dave Navarro to split.

Oscar time!

Really random Oscar thoughts: )

I feel all Entertainment Tonight-y these days.

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt Expecting Baby This Summer. That's either going to be the most beautiful child ever created, or the ugliest.

Hmm...Wonder if they're still going to refuse to admit they're in a relationship?

It's been quite a while since I was genuinely shocked by a celebrity split, but: Hilary Swank and Chad Lowe? Really?

[livejournal.com profile] austin360 basically detailed out all my problems with last night's Oscars. Chris Rock? I like him, but I don't think his humor worked for the Oscars. And there was freakin' way too much Beyoncé. Why aren't her 15 minutes over? Why is she still being shoved down my throat? (See also: Puff Daddy, or whatever he's calling himself these days.)

The high points were Morgan Freeman's win and, of course, Cate Blanchett's. She looked stunning, as usual. I didn't care overly much for 'The Aviator,' but I loved her in it. I love her in everything. Emma Thompson is secure in her spot as my most adored actress, but the Mesdames Winslet and Blanchett are very close behind her. Speaking of which, Kate Winslet was a goddess in that blue dress.

My weekend: )

  • This year's Oscars were booooooorrrrrrrring. I kept flipping through the stations, which is a travesty on Oscar night.

  • Is it me or were they much, much shorter this year? It seems like I'm usually up till at least midnight, and last night Best Picture was announced at, like, 11 my time.

  • Billy Crystal annoys me. All his 'impressions' remind me of Miracle Max, whom I love, but still...all Miracle Max. Bring back Steve Martin!

  • I really, really, really wanted Bill Murray to win for 'Lost in Translation'. But I knew he wouldn't. At least I don't hate Sean Penn.

  • It didn't take me long to get sick to death of hearing 'The Lord of the Rings' win every freakin' category. I mean, don't get me wrong--It was a phenomenal movie and I love it; it deserved every category. But no matter how much I love a movie, it bores me to death when it sweeps the Academy Awards. It's the same reason I hate a sports game where one team gets thoroughly trounced. Where's the fun in that? I like a little variety. So yeah, LotR? Still love you, you deserved it. But it made the Oscars BORING as all hell.

  • Where were Charlize Theron's eyebrows?

  • Julia Roberts, I have begun to hate you again. You are not fit to lick Katharine Hepburn's boots.

  • Wow, no wonder Sofia Coppola got trashed for her acting. She can't even read a teleprompter with the slightest trace of personality! At least she can write.

  • That Stuart Townsend is quite fanciable. A bit too sunbaked, but still dishy. Go, Charlize!

  • An easy path to get me in tears--Five words: Gregory Peck. Sweeping instrumental music.

  • No, Charlize Theron did not make me cry. I just had something in my eye. Lots of somethings.

  • New Zealand accents really are awesome.
