When you see this, quote Leo McGarry.

There are a lot that came to mind--the funny ones, especially; John Spencer was so brilliantly funny--but this is the one I went with. It's one of my top favorites. The whole scene is wonderful, a classic Leo moment, in my opinion: a little humor, some humility, and a lot of humanity.

LEO: Karen, what you did caused a lot of problems, for me, for the President, and for a lot of people we don't even know. But I'm not sure it wasn't a little bit brave. Did you like working at the White House?

KAREN: Yes, sir.

LEO: Okay. Then why don't you go unpack your carton and you and I will give each other a second chance?

Well, if [livejournal.com profile] dianora2's post made me feel better about missing tonight's WW (due to a t-storm that caused a power outage, which shut off the DVR which was recording the ep...which lay in the house that Jack built), the TWoP recap really sealed the deal:

Do you remember last week, how Sam Seaborn came back, and Josh nearly went postal, and Josh and Donna went off on a romantic vacation? And you remember how we've been waiting to hear more about C.J. and Danny? And how we all want to know whether Toby's going to prison, or whether he's going to be pardoned, or what? Well, none of any of that gets resolved or addressed in the slightest degree this week. ...I can't believe they wasted one of our last three episodes on this.

Okay, I think we all know what I'm going to say here. Mainly: SamyayOMGSQUEEEEEEE!

In non-WW squeeing news, one of my worst fears was realized today when I was clipping Small Anne's nails. Yeah, you can already see where this is going. I clipped a tiny chunk out of her teeny little thumb. Oh, how she cried. It was the saddest thing in the world. I cried, too. She's okay now, and it hardly bled at all, but there's a little bit of skin missing.

Poor little Small Anne with her sucky, clumsy mama.

Additionally, S finally watched the BSG finale, and I watched with him. I'm not really into the show, but I can see why so many people are. (For the most part, sci-fi just isn't really my thing.) At any rate, I can't believe it's not coming back till October! S nearly cried when he saw that. When Prison Break went on hiatus, I told him, "Just think, our baby will be two months old by the time it's back on." This time I reminded him she'd be nine months old. He didn't so much appreciate that.

Oh, and we have mice. Every night after I put Small Anne to bed, I sit here with the puppies and listen to them rustle around. It's vaguely creepy. And our dogs--who bark at the mailman every single day, and still wig out when they hear S's key in the door every day at the same time--never pay the slightest bit of attention. Hmph.

This is one of the few drawbacks to being a home-owner. I would give anything to shove this off onto a landlord, but alas, it's our responsibility. Sigh.

I know I didn't know John Spencer, but he was a wonderful, gifted actor, by all accounts a gentleman, and a fellow human being, and he made me love Leo McGarry, and so I am very sad right now.

ETA (from msnbc):

"“There are very few personal treasures that you put in your knapsack to carry with you for the rest of your life, and he’s one of those." -- Richard Schiff

"John was an uncommonly good man, an exceptional role model and a brilliant actor." -- Aaron Sorkin

“Everyone adored him." -- Allison Janney

“We have all lost a dear, dear brother.” -- Bradley Whitford

Re: last night's 'Scrubs': I don't hate Elliot anymore. Now I hate JD! Wishy-washy Fickle Fucker JD.

Yes, my loyalties can be tested this easily. I think I called him a 'fucker' about 30 times last night, which is about twice as much as I called Elliot a 'bitch' after what she pulled on him in the whole let's-have-sex-now-let-me-go-back-to-my-boyfriend stunt.

Of course, I still love JD. But I hate him too.

Bravo showed 'SGTE, SGTJ' last night. Oh, how I love love love this episode. That look on Sam's face at the very end still gets to me, every time.I can quote it practically word for word. I think it's one of my top 3 most-watched episodes, the others being 'Ellie' and probably 'Celestial Navigation.'

We went out with our friends Bran & Sus last Friday night, and Bran mentioned how much he liked the episodes he'd seen of 'The West Wing,' and did we know when it was on, because he'd like to catch up on it?

I said, "Wednesday nights at 8 on NBC, but don't bother. It's not worth your time anymore. Get Bravo and watch the first few seasons."

It's nice to make other people's decisions for them.

In other news, I'm wearing my new black linen skirt today, and guess what I discovered when I got to work? In the right light, you can see STRAIGHT THROUGH IT.

I guess Janie won't be leaving her desk anytime soon today.

I am feeling so random today.

The other night, S and I were channel-surfing and we came upon a WW repeat. Immediately he looked over at me.

S: Okay, what episode is this?

J: I don't know!

S: Come on. What episode is it?

J: S, I don't know every freakin' episode! Jeez!

S: pauses expectantly

J: Well, Sam has Season 1 hair, so...

S: Yeah, uh-huh, I knew you knew it.

J: But I don't! I don't know S1 as well as I know other seasons!

pause

J: It kind of...

S: raises his eyebrows

J: (sheepishly) Well, it kind of...looks like...

S: Kind of?

J: It's 'The Crackpots and These Women', okay?! It's 'The Crackpots and These Women'!

S: I knew it! I knew you'd know it!

J: Happy now?

S: It's a weird talent you have. It's like a superpower.

How would that sound? Super Janie! Able to guess 'West Wing' episodes in 5 seconds or less! Super Janie to the rescue!
